[Imported] Can I set different inventory amounts for custom options?

For example, if I have a chair that has the custom options of the customer to buy it in black or brown upholstery. I want to set the inventory for the brown color to be 10 and the black color to be 20.

Is that possible? Or do I have to make these chairs two completely separate products?

  In order to associate inventory with each option, you'll need to create configurable products and each simple product will represent an option (or combination of options) for inventory purposes.

  Using configurable products also gives you some other great benefits, including allowing your customers to filter on category pages based on attributes that you're using, and update product images based on selected options using product swatches.
