Image overlay for sale or new items

I would like to be able to add a overlay to draw attention to certain items.
When setting up a sale or new product, I'd like to be able to set up a banner or sunburst graphic that acts as an overlay across the left upper corner of the standard product image to highlight the fact that the item is on sale or new

  This would be excellent, it seems today to be a basic feature to be able to do this on your themes for new items, or items on sale etc. I would absolutely love to see this.

  Definitely a good idea, promoting products this way is less invasive than other methods
