Support for Pre-Orders

We use the back-order feature to allow customers to order merchandise we know we will have back in stock within a few days. But we would also like to be able to take pre-orders on merchandise that we might not have available for several weeks. Could Zoey support this natively and/or is there an app that would support it? We'd love to have the option of allowing the customer to make a deposit on these items, with additional support to charge them the balance when we ship the items to them. How can we implement this functionality?
