Category Menu Sidebar - Ability to control what categories are visible

It would be amazing if we had more control over the category sidebar and what is displayed. In its current form, it is extremely overwhelming and long when expanded as it shows basically every category in the store. I would like to see the ability to display just the parent and immediate child categories based on the page you are on. 

Further control would be ideal, such as the ability to hide certain categories from the menu and/or to add manual ones just like the main category nav at the top of the page has. 

Example if you are in a category for  Mens Clothing you may see Pants, Shirts, Underwear etc. If you click shirts then you may see categories of Tank Tops, T-Shirts, Crew Neck etc.

This would hugely improve the functionality of the side bars and make them more useable for store owners. I myself have been eagerly waiting for an update like this so I can use them.
