Catalog Price Rules are applied to products before they are added to the shopping cart. They can be used to create sales and discounts that do not require customers to enter a discount code. A catalog price rule consists of three parts: information, conditions, and actions.
To set up a Catalog Price Rule, do the following:
- In your Control Panel, under the Promotions tab in your main navigation bar, click “Catalog Sales.”
- To create a new Catalog Price Rule, click the Add New Rule button in the right corner of your control panel page.
- Under Rule Information fill out the following fields:
- Rule Name & Description (these are for internal reference only and are not shown to customers.)
- Set Status field to active.
- If managing multiple websites, in the Websites list, select the websites where this rule applies.
- In the Customer Groups field, select the customer groups to be included in the promotion.
- In the From Date and To Date fields, set a date range for the rule to take effect. If you leave the date range empty, then the rule is enabled as it is saved.
- In the Priority Field, enter a number to state the priority of this rule. Enter 0 for the highest priority, 1 for the second highest priority, and so on.
To define Conditions, the pre-requisites to use this rule such as Category is Men's Tops, do the following:
- In the panel on the left, select the Conditions tab.
*The first rule in the Conditions section appears by default if all of these conditions are true. This rule specifies that the rules you define must all be met and all of them are true. For conditions, you can use ALL or ANY, and they can be set to TRUE or FALSE. - Click the green plus sign to display the list of product attributes (the default values are Attribute Set, SKU, and Category) which can be used to describe the condition.
- Set the conditional limits for these product attributes. When you select each product attribute, you can apply different combinations of conditional limits, such as: is, is not, greater than, less than, contains, does not contain, is one of, is not one of, and more.
- Choose which groupings or singular SKUs will qualify for this sale by clicking on the ellipses (...), list tool, or dropdown.
- To include additional product attribute conditions, select Conditions Combinations in the list and repeat the previous step.
- Click the Save and Continue Edit button to save this selection and apply the rule immediately.
To define what will happen when the rule is applied using Actions:
- In the panel on the left, select the Actions tab.
- In the Apply field, select one of the following options:
- By Percentage of the Original Price: Discounts the item by subtracting from the original price. For example, a value of 10 in the Discount Amount field defines a final price that is a 10% reduction from the original price.
- By Fixed Amount: Discounts the item by subtracting a fixed amount from the original price. For example, a value of 10 in the Discount Amount field defines a final price that is $10 less than the original price.
- To Percentage of the Original Price: Discounts the item by defining the final price based on a percentage. For example, a value of 10 in the Discount Amount field defines a final price that is 10% of the original price.
- To Fixed Amount: Discounts the item by defining the final price to a fixed amount. For example, a value of 10 in the Discount Amount field defines a final price of $10. - Enter an amount in the Discount Amount field.
- Set Stop Further Rules Processing to one of the following:
- Yes: Stops processing other rules (Only the sale with the highest priority will be shown)
- No: Other rules continue to be processed (Additional sales can be compounded) - Click Save and Apply button to save your changes.
