Adding Content to your Page Sidebar - Classic Design Tools

Please note this tutorial is only for our older Classic design themes and tools. For information on our new themes and how to use the updated tools, please see: Starting with Design and Advanced Design Tools.

Left, Right or both Sidebars can be configured on your Homepage, Content Pages (About us, etc...), Category Pages and Product Pages.

To add content to a sidebar you have to do TWO things:

1. Create a "Content Block" with the content you would like to appear in a Sidebar
2. Create a "Widget" where you determine the location the Content Block should appear

Step 1: Creating a Content Block

Navigate to Design>Content

Click Add New Block

Add your content to your new block, then click SAVE

Step 2: Creating a Widget

Navigate to Design>Widgets

Click "Add New Widget Instance

Select Widget Type: CMS Static Block 

Set your Design Package/Theme to rwd / Zoey

Click "CONTINUE"

Configure your "Front-End" properties

Configure your "Layout Update" - this is what tells the widget where on your site it should appear

In the "Widget Options" tab, select your static block. This blue button will open a window that will allow you to search for and select the Content Block you created in Step 1

SAVE the Widget!

Now Refresh your Store by clicking on Advanced>Store Refresh

Check to see that the Content Block now appears on your Sidebar!
